Issue with simple CRUD operations using Models

Hello.

I'm working on a table migration and I'm getting some very strange behavior that I've spent a couple days trying to figure out but can't seem to make any progress.

Background:

1. Originally, the table had a joint pkey (user_address, asset_uuid). This was a unique pair and worked well for the pkey.
2. I created a migration to add 4 columns (type: string, table:string, referenced_id: string, id: number) that also dropped the pkey
3. I created a function, seen below, to create data for all of these new columns, but this is where the behavior begins.

Issues:

1. When I comment out the NON-commented out line and run with the COMMENTED OUT lines, the table gets updated as expected (all of the columns get updated correctly)
2. When I reintroduce the currently NON-commented out line and run, nothing gets updated (the id column stays null)

Is there anything I'm doing wrong here? Please let me know if I can provide more information
