Custom URL Configuration for Smartsheets Connector

Background

Airbyte's Smartsheets connector currently uses a default hard-coded URL to connect to the Smartsheets API. While this meets the needs of most users, it limits flexibility for organizations that utilize Smartsheets instances using an alternate URL. Allowing users to configure custom URLs will enhance the connector's versatility and accommodate a wider range of use cases.

• User Interface:

  • Add a new input field labeled "API URL" in the connector setup interface.
  • Provide a tooltip or help text explaining the use of this field and any required format (e.g., "Enter the base URL for your Smartsheets API instance. If not specified, the default URL will be used.").

• Configuration Handling:

  • Validate the entered URL to ensure it follows a proper format and is reachable.
  • If the field is empty, default to the existing hard-coded URL.
  • Update the connector’s logic to use the specified URL for all API requests.

• Backward Compatibility:

  • Ensure that existing configurations that do not specify a custom URL continue to function as they currently do, using the default URL.

• Documentation:

  • Update the Smartsheets connector documentation to include instructions on configuring the custom URL.
