Feedback on the Application ANE

Hi all,

I'm just looking for some feedback on our Application ANE.

Historically this extension has been one that we've used to provide workaround to AIR bugs or add missing features, however as Harman are developing AIR further and fixing decade old bugs we are seeing a lot of the functionality in the Application ANE becoming obsolete or available in AIR directly.

So I'm thinking about doing a complete rewrite / clean up of the extension, potentially breaking it into some free extensions, but would like to know which parts of the extension you are using so I can focus on those and ensure I don't miss any key functionality that you are relying on.

I'm using the Application ANE for:

- uniqueId
- getDisplayCutout
- setStatusBarColour
- setNavigationBarColour
- setNavigationBarStyle
- DeviceOrientationEvent.CHANGED (startGeneratingDeviceOrientationEvents)

The 2 key areas I had listed for the Application ANE going forward, include System / Device info (including the unique id) and the display modes / navigation / status bar controls.

I'll make a note of the orientation events, wasn't sure if they were being used so good to know that.

I'm using the orientation events due to the bug #3802 , where StageOrientation.DEFAULT is not received under certain circumstances (preventing app from actual rotating stage with event.preventDefault). So unless this gets fixed (which I currently doubt), I'm dependent on that actually 😅

Do you still need the black screen helper? I thought that issue had been fixed or do you still find its needed in some situations?

Is it safe to remove code for black screen helper? Which AIR version fixed it? Thanks.

I don't actually recall but we haven't used it in a project for a long time.

Hi!
I remove all Application.ane dependencies with last AIR except deviceID - it is an important part of my client/server logic.
It will be great for me if u can provide this logic throw any other .ane (core.ane?)

Yes definitely plan on keeping that one.

I think we'll move it into a "system" or "device info" extension.
