Description
Longtime SponsorBlock user here. I’d like to propose a new optional category for content warning / viewer discretion disclaimers.
These are short warnings about disturbing or sensitive material (e.g., “viewer discretion advised,” “this video contains graphic imagery”) that usually appear immediately before the main content.
Why this may fit the category criteria
Common and widespread
These warnings appear frequently across many genres on YouTube, including horror, true crime, documentaries, internet history videos, and news footage before graphic material.
Well-defined
Brief disclaimer screens or voiceovers warning about disturbing or sensitive material before the main content begins.
This would exclude channel intros, narrative setup, or commentary.
Not a health-protection feature
The goal isn’t to protect viewers from disturbing content—only to allow users to optionally skip repetitive disclaimers.
Why this should be separate from “intro”
Content warnings serve a different purpose from intros. Some users may want to skip intros but still see content warnings, while others may prefer the opposite.
Crowdsourcing suitability
These segments are typically:
- short (a few seconds)
- visually standardized
- placed right before the main content
Because of this, they should be relatively easy for users to mark consistently.
