Docker internal bind address

I was trying to get this to work in docker and only got it to work after passing -i 0.0.0.0 to the container when not using the host mode. Could you change the defaults or have an option to read the bind IP from an environment variable?

If you’re passing -i to Merino in the Dockerfile, you could pass it in via an env var there. Not sure how you mean “get this to work” can you elaborate on the issue you're having? Is the issue it’s not binding to the external IP address by default?

1. Currently I am passing -i 0.0.0.0 as a command in my compose file
2. It is! I tried binding it to 127.0.0.1 and a few other wireguard interface IPs on my host which did not work with the default settings.

Are you mapping the container port to your host? That way 0.0.0.0 would work and you’d just use localhost + the port to connect from a process running on the host or elsewhere on your network. If you don’t map the port, you’d have to use host mode which can have some ugly side effects. Lmk if you still have questions.
