Privacy Policy for Orbit

Effective Date: March 1, 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to Orbit ("we," "our," or "us"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when using our macOS application, Orbit.

2. Data Collection

Orbit collects the following personal data through integration with Google Contacts:

  • Contact names
  • Email addresses
  • Locale settings

We do not collect or store sensitive personal data such as health, biometric, or financial information.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the collected data for:

  • Authenticating and authorizing users via Google Contacts
  • Providing application functionality
  • Analytics and performance monitoring
  • Error tracking and debugging

4. Third-Party Services

We use third-party services to enhance the functionality and reliability of Orbit:

  • Posthog (Analytics)
  • Rollbar (Exception handling)
  • Langfuse & Langsmith (Observability)
  • OpenAI, Groq (Cloud inference APIs)

These services may process data as part of their operations. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details on their data handling practices.

5. Data Storage & Security

  • Your data is stored locally on your device and within Google Contacts.
  • Communications with third-party services are secured via HTTPS.
  • Both server and client operations are confined to the local machine to enhance security.

6. User Rights

  • Users can delete their data by uninstalling Orbit and managing their contacts through Google Contacts.
  • Currently, we do not offer an opt-out mechanism for analytics and observability.

7. Children's Privacy

Orbit is not intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Compliance with Legal Regulations

Since Orbit is currently distributed in the United States, we adhere to applicable privacy laws.

CCPA Compliance

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) does not apply to Orbit as we do not meet the revenue, user count, or data sales thresholds. However, we respect user privacy and provide the following:

  • Users can request data deletion by uninstalling the app or managing their data via Google Contacts.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • For privacy-related inquiries, users may contact hello+github@askorbit.co.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on our website or within the application.
