Akash Community Contribution Program

This document outlines everything you need to know about Akash's new Community Contribution program. This is a living document designed to evolve as the community grows and more people participate. Bookmark this page for updates to the program design!

How is the program structured?

There are currently three tiers of the program: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Potential contributions will be posted in the GitHub issues with the skill level tag. Each project will have a scope listing what specifically needs to be done, the estimated time required, and the amount of money to be paid upon completion. Projects must be assigned to you before you start work and must be completed within the specified time period (or after you have been approved for an extension). If it's deemed you're not actively working on the project, it will become available for other people to take. Assuming the work is completed as described by the scope, you will be paid within a week. The goal of the program is to improve the Akash ecosystem through community contributions.

Beginner

The first tier is limited only to those new to Akash or new to contributing to Akash. After three days, you will need to post a check-in on your progress. At this level, we recommend you be familiar with the process of creating an SDL file from scratch.
Skills:

• Comfortable using the Akash Console
• Basic level understanding of GitHub for contributions
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Intermediate

The second tier is for those who have some familiarity with making contributions. After one week, you will need to post a check-in on your progress. At this level, we recommend you be familiar with writing and deploying applications from scratch.
Skills:

• Significant experience with Akash Network and its components
• Intermediate level Go knowledge
• Intermediate level Kubernetes knowledge

Advanced

The third tier is for those comfortable with shipping large features with milestones. After each milestone, you will need to post a check-in on your progress.
Skills:

• Intimate knowledge of Akash Network
• Deep understanding and experience with the Akash Core codebase
• Senior level Go knowledge
• Senior level Kubernetes knowledge

How do you participate?

1. Make sure you've applied.
2. Your application will be reviewed and if your skills are a match you will be assigned a project.
3. The issue tag will be changed to 'Reserved' once you agree to the work. You may now start working in a public fork.

How do you complete a check-in?

1. On the GitHub issue you've been assigned, summarize the work that you have done so far. Link to the portions of your code (should be public) that backs up your claims. Make note of what has not yet been finished and your estimation of how long it will take you to complete it.
2. Double check how the work you did applies to the scope. Make that obvious to those reviewing your work.
3. Check-ins are due depending on the timeline specified for the project.

How do you submit for review/payment?

1. Copy the scope into a GitHub issue comment. This should be below your check-in.
2. For each deliverable written on the scope, link to where in your code you have solved this problem and summarize how it works.
3. If there are any issues pointed out within the code, please address them promptly.
4. Make a PR on the relevant GitHub repo, and request that it be merged with a link to the scoped issue.
5. Payment will be released only after it is merged and within one week of completion.

Getting Started

1. Familiarize yourself with Akash documention.
2. Join Akash's Discord. This is a great place to find support for any technical questions you may have.
3. Submit an application.
4. Note: By participating in this program you agree that Overclock Labs has the right to refuse full payment if the contributor does not communicate project updates or milestones. In short, if you’re working on a contribution, let us know how it’s going or risk your full reward.
