Description
Not an issue. Since I trashed multiple CDs, I think I should share my findings.
The game is DDR 2nd Remix (NTSC-J) , and as we know this game has APv2 + EDC.
I followed your guide and used CDRDAO with Arch Linux + external burner. I had the exact same results as you, except near the end after "flushing cache" message I had errors in the terminal. I also tried with admin rights, and still same errors. These errors cause the disc not to be read on any platform/OS. I did not write down the exact error messages, and decided to try something else.
My solution was to use Alcohol 120% (Free edition) on Windows. The existing instructions were not very clear to me. And it was not shown inside the "Burning Software" table in your ultimate guide. This is how I got it to work.
- Startup the program.
- Select Image burning Wizard.
- Select the .cue file and press next.
- In this new window, at the bottom left the Datatype is set to 3DO by default.
- Change this datatype to General Protected CD.
- Change write speed to the speed you prefer.
- Click start and it will burn correctly.
-
The game will now work fine on a PS1 stealth chipped when burned this way. Otherwise it will freeze.
-
On a PAL PS2 39xxx chipped console, it behaves differently. Use Tonyhax International 1.5.1 to prevent APv2 from triggering and it will work. It does not care about EDC. The freeze is not triggered even if you burn incorrectly with ImgBurn.

I also tested Um Jammer Lammy (Europe) on the PS2 + chipped. It boots up no problem with Tonyhax International 1.5.1.
Overall the software and boot disc is very useful to maximize PS1 compatibility on early PS2.
