Confusion about the behavior from pedals in the LED display.

I have just focussed on the the pedalboard, the foot switches and the display for this. I have the Bank name displayed, I've managed to set up pedals 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 as latch type pedals. I note that pedal 7 and pedal 8 can only be momentary whereas the other pedals have more options. I suspect this is due to some connection between the onboard switches on the SoC and the foot switches which I still don't understand why that is.

I've set the controls up as follows.

I've set the actions up for the Controls basically as simply as I can. All as "Press & Release", "Control Change" with only the Control Value and the CC value changing for the first seven pedals.

Only the tags for pedals 1, 3, 5 and 7 are in the LED display, though all pedals are tagged with :P{number}X. These appear as small text above the bank name. If I click on the odd numbered pedals then the text is highlighted or unhighlighted. If I click on pedal 2, the LED comes on and off, which is right, but it doesn't appear at all in the LED. If I change Pedal P2 tag to remove the ':' at the start, then the LED display displays the change.

Pedal 7 has the text displayed but doesn't latch. So I click on it and the LED display changes back and forth.

I'm really confused. I've spent most of a day trying to understand why this is so.

All I want is eight pedals to latch and send CC commands up to my amp sim. I don't care about the expression pedal, or the buttons on the SoC as they are covered by the two tiny plastic press flaps to the right of the LED. I would like all the pedals to display their status on the LED screen. I cannot work out how to get the text across the top and bottom as shown the docs.

I have a feeling this may be something to do with the number of available data lines on the SoC but thats a guess. Is there a different firmware that gets me eight switches and thats it? I don't want anything too complicated.

Control 7 is connected to button1 of pedal 4 and control 8 is connected to pedal 4 button 2.
Foot switch 7 (and 8) is not working as expected because Pedal 4 has Latch Emulation off.

Don't confuse physical foot switches with Pedals. A foot switch is a Control.

Thanks, thats sorted out the latch issue. Didn't realise that both pedals needed to be latched.

So is there something special needed to get the tags for the even numbered pedals to appear on the LCD please? I can't seem to find any issues about this. Odd numbered pedals appear, but not even numbered.

I'm still trying to work out how to get eight pedals to do simple latching, to have the display showing the tags for all eight pedals in the display as the small text above and below the main bank name.

There is still nothing in the docs about why a control has a pedal and a button. What is a button and what is a pedal? It appears that for the latch to work, you need to have Control 1 set to Pedal 1/Button 1 and Control 2 set to Pedal 1/Button 2. Does this man that you can only have four latches with eight pedals. Perhaps I'm amazingly dense but I've read the docs, I've read through the issues and can see that older versions of the software appear to work. Is what I'm after even possible with V4.1 of the firmware or should I just give up? I've spent 10-12 hours trying to get this to work in the last two days alone and I just can't make it do what I think should be dead simple stuff.

Here some example of what PedalinoMini call Pedals:

• Boss FS-1
• Boss FS-6
• TC Helicon Switch-6

All of them have a TRS connector but they have a different number of foot switches. Each switch is a different button for PedalinoMini.

Internal foot switches has no physical TRS connector but they are wired exactly the same of external TRS pedals.

PedalinoMini 8 have 4 internal pedals (1-4) equivalent to 4 Boss FS-6. Each pedal has 2 buttons.
Pedal 5 and Pedal 6 are the external TRS port. To each TRS port you can connect a lot of different stuff.

With default configuration your internal 8 foot switches are called Control 1 to Control 8.

I hope it can help to understand the logic.

I'm trying to simplify this down myself and I'm still struggling. I have no interest at this moment in TRS connectors to make this as easy as possible.

I'm still struggling to understand why a foot switch maps to a pedal and a button in the control window.

Should I be thinking about Controls first and then Pedals in the order in which I set things up? The docs seem to think it should be Pedals and then Controls.

I can see that you would want to abstract away the foot switch hardware as there could be different types of hardware, such as rotary encoders or expression pedals, and a uniform interface in the code makes sense. I used to write code for Unix boxes and network systems so the concept of hardware abstraction is fine. The way it appears to me in the Controls window is that a Pedal spans two foot switches and and has two Buttons. So Control 1 is defined as Pedal1/Button1 and refers to foot-switch 1 and Control 2 is Pedal 1/Button2 and refers to foot-switch 2. Perhaps I should just accept that's the way it needs to be setup for latch emulation.

There is still an issue that I cannot get the LEDs to display the Tag information for even numbered pedals the same way as for odd numbered pedals.

I've reinstalled the PedalinoMini 8 (PM8) firmware back to the factory setting, connected it back to the wifi so I have a clean start again.

I can see the logs on my Windows box and I have the web interface on my Mac. If I click on a foot-switch I can see the three events that come up in the console window. I can see that foot-switch 1 has the numbers 1/1 and foot-switch 2 has the numbers 1/2 associated with each of the three events.

These are the steps I did to show my issue

My logic is that I start in the Pedal window, I leave the Mode pull down as is on all the pedals, I suspect that Momentary 2 is a slightly different type of foot-switch. In my head I had assumed that each of the eight pedals on the Pedal page refers to the eight foot-switches on the PM8, I'm no longer sure about this.

I set the latch emulation on Pedal 1 to Pedal 8.

I then go to the Control page which has ten controls on. I leave these setup as-is but I do change the LED numbers over.

I then move to the Actions Page, I set up eight actions. Each action has the same template, "Press and Release", "Control Change" and unique identifiers for the Release and Press Tags. I have put a ':' at the start to get the correct format on the LED display. I didn't want to cut and paste all eight settings.

I have also changed the Bank name to "B1"

I only get the text for the foot switches 1, 3 5 and 7 displayed, even though foot switches (and I assume pedals), 2, 4 and 6 are setup in the same way as 1 , 3 , 5 and 7. You can see this in the window below. P1Y through to P7Y are along the top of the LED display

If I click footswitch 2, I get the display change to show this

It's as if the ':' is being ignored in the Release Tag and Press Tag

I have managed to get Tag displays on the bottom of the the LED display, but I can't work out how.

Is there anyway to get the Tag text for the even numbered pedals to display on the LED display?

I built the Peadlinomini 8 about two weeks ago, and it was difficult to understand how to use it. I also have the same problem with the display and then found this discussion. I think all4star is working on a solution #575. Regards, M.

I'm happy to help update what I can. I still do the occasional coding on Arduinos for a guitar pickup winder I'm making, but unless it's C on UNIX, I'm not much help on the coding side.

I like the ideas in #575, I'd just like the even numbered pedals tags to display though. I'm driving a Mod Dwarf with mine, I can't get the Bluetooth comms to work yet, but I'll keep trying. I am not a Bluetooth expert and its entirely possible that the Mod Dwarf Bluetooth is not possible with this device, if that's the case, I'll live with it. The Mod Dwarf is no longer but its a really good amp simulator.

I can write though, so if possible I may update docs on here to make them a little clearer. If you know what you are doing, docs are always good, if new to this, things aren't so easy.
