Adding animations to pop ups

I am using react and autocomplete with Instant Search. I do not have actual search results showing in my search bar right now but i do have recent searches enabled. I am struggling to work out a way to make the recent searches panel slide in to make it look nicer. Is this something that can be achieved without a custom renderer?
