this.$refs undefined inside x-data function ?

I think this worked in v2, but just picked up a project and noticed that I cannot manipulate x-ref items from inside my x-data function?

For example...

this.$refs.billingEmail.classList.add("error");

Is there a better way to do this?

Nevermind. the x-ref was nested so it was not accessible from parent app. 😖
