SSL2.conf Defines Incorrect Number of Capture Channels

The file at ucm2/USB-Audio/SolidStateLabs/SSL2.conf has the line

Define.DirectCaptureChannels 4

However, I believe that should actually be

Define.DirectCaptureChannels 2

since the SSL2 (not the SSL2+) only has 2 physical inputs.

As well, now, with that change, a third audio "profile" appears ago for the SSL2 output device of Direct SSL 2.

The [ALSA UCM error] still appears, but now the correct "profile" is available. As well, now my music player, Amberol, is able to persist the volume change between songs. Before if I changed the volume and proceed to the next song the audio in the Amberol application would get set to max.

The output in journalctl is still present

if the HiFi profile is selected. I'm assuming because the file SSL2-HiFi.conf needs to be updated for the correct number of hardware capture channels.

Wait, I was slightly mistaken. Changing only the defined number of capture channels in SSL2.conf does not solve the problem. As I mentioned in the issue, the file SSL2-HiFi.conf also has the incorrect number of capture channels defined. I'm not sure how that file should be changed but I removed the section

SectionUseCase."HiFi" {
        Comment "HiFi"
        File "/USB-Audio/SolidStateLabs/SSL2-HiFi.conf"
}

from the file SSL2.conf and now the message [ALSA UCM error] no longer appears, the volume level in the music player Amberol now persists, and there are no error messages about incorrect number of capture channels in journalctl

It seems that those cards may have different firmware / revisions, see #566 .

Please, provide /proc/asound/card2/stream0 contents like in #566 (replace card2 with the proper card identification).

Also provide contents of /sys/class/sound/card2/device/../bcdDevice file (with the corrected card2).

@olfx : FYI ; Could you also provide bcdDevice contents ?

@perexg Aww, hell ya. That is very nice. Now the "Pro Audio" profile is selectable and it works very well. The audio seems nicer than the "HiFi" profile.

My music player Amberol still has a hard time always remembering its volume level but I believe that is purely from pipe-wire itself. Nothing to do with this repo. Thank you so much!

Edit: Actually, I think I will ignore that "Pro Audio" setting. Testing the speakers with the "front left" and "front right" things just produces static. LOL. Anyways, thank you so much for you all your help!

Note that with latest pipewire the audio quality and latencies should be equal for all profiles. Also Direct profile is identical to Pro profile. Both are without the channel split. So it's perhaps a subjective feeling.

I no longer see the "Direct" profile. Though if "Pro" and "Direct" don't use the channel split then yeah, I am good with just the "HiFi" profile.

@perexg I have an SSL 2+ that's also giving me this problem, and it looks like your fix was only applied to the base SSL2 model.
I think the difference for the Plus is in the MKI vs MKII if I had to guess, either that or some other revision. Mine has the combined XLR & 1/4" jack on each of its two input channels and no other inputs. Changing DirectCaptureChannels to 2 and then changing HWChannels to 2 on each input in my SSL2Plus configs fixed it for me.
