Bug: version number in header is wrong

The version is showing 0.0.7 but we have pushed later releases like 0.0.8 or 0.0.9. It might help to put a bit of debug up there: a mouseover that shows the container image names running in the environment as well as the release version.

Amber Analysis - Frontend Version Display Issue

Executive Summary

Root Cause Identified: Hardcoded version value in frontend deployment manifest causing version display to show "0.1.0" regardless of actual deployed version.

Root Cause

File: components/manifests/base/frontend-deployment.yaml:33

The frontend deployment manifest contains a hardcoded NEXT_PUBLIC_APP_VERSION environment variable set to "0.1.0". This value is baked into the manifest and never updated, regardless of what version is actually deployed.

Why It Happens

There's a discrepancy between CI/CD and manual deployments:

• CI/CD Pipeline: The GitHub Actions workflow patches this value dynamically during deployment using kubectl set env with the git commit SHA
• Manual Deployments: Direct kubectl apply uses the hardcoded "0.1.0" value from the manifest
• Result: The base manifest becomes stale, and any deployment method that doesn't include the dynamic patching step shows the wrong version

Recommended Solution

Implement a VERSION file + Kustomize ConfigMapGenerator approach:

1. Create VERSION file in repo root (single source of truth)
2. Use Kustomize ConfigMapGenerator to inject version at deployment time
3. Remove hardcoded value from deployment manifest
4. Update CI/CD pipeline to use Kustomize-based approach

This ensures version consistency across all deployment methods (CI/CD, manual, GitOps).

• Cosmetic issue, but confusing for users and operators
• No functional impact on application behavior
• Can complicate debugging and support ("What version am I running?")
