"Delete your account" next step is not very clear (and not translated)

How to reproduce:

• open settings > sync > ankiweb account > remove account

Actual result:

• being asked to log-in to an existing account. Entering email and password
• then asking to enter the password again and type "remove"

I think that log-in seems like the reverse of what the user want. I know why it makes sense, ankiweb being independent of ankidroid, and we certainly don’t want to give the authentication key to the browser. But I’d expect it to be confusing for some users.

I think it’d be nice to first state: "In order to delete your account, we need you first to re-authentify." Would you be okay, @dae to add a page with this string before the authentication form, so that the user know what is going on? I hope it would not require too much extra work.

Ideally, I’d also ask for a get parameter to put the address email. I think that in this case, requesting the user to tap the email address is counter productive. If they have multiple accounts, they may not know which account was used on ankidroid and may end up entering the email of another account. (Admittedly, the information was provided in the previous page, so it is easy to find again)

Of course, I’d also appreciate if there were translation of this page, to be certain the user know what they are doing. What "remove" mean. But I guess this is far more complex and a problem for the entire ankiweb

Hi @Arthur-Milchior and @dae! I'm Abhinav (new contributor) and this aligns perfectly with my Android UX experience. I'd like to tackle this as my first PR:

• Add explanatory screen before login (using Jetpack Compose or xml for the dialog/fragment).
• Pass current email via intent to prefill the auth form.
• Extract strings to strings.xml for easy translation.

I'll reference past UX fixes. Any specific files to start with?

TL;DR:

• No Jetpack Compose (discussed in Discord)
• Don't pass the email by Intent, as there's nowhere downstream to handle it
  • Possibly add a 'copy to clipboard' button for the email
• Don't spend too much time here, it's not a commonly used flow

A user registered for their AnkiWeb account (third-party account) using a web browser

We should have a reasonable link for a user to delete the account using AnkiWeb, but the account deletion flow isn't under our control and is better suited to being improved from the AnkiWeb side (if deemed to be a priority)

But brief information on how to complete the process won't do any harm

Got it — I'll keep the implementation simple:

• Use XML (no Compose)

• Avoid passing the email; instead add a “Copy to clipboard” button

• Add a brief explanation screen/message before redirecting to AnkiWeb

• Keep everything lightweight since it’s not a heavily-used flow

Just an update — I have completed the implementation for this enhancement and opened a PR: #19436.
Important note:
By mistake, one of my early commit messages auto-linked issue #19540, but the PR only addresses this issue (#19436). I’ve clarified this in the PR comments as well.

The PR includes:

1. A lightweight explanation dialog before opening the account deletion WebView
2. XML implementation (no Compose)
3. A “Copy email to clipboard” option
4. Cleaned-up strings + GPL header compliance

Please let me know if anything needs adjustment.
