run_discovery_script_file fails even though script runs fine in SpaceClaim GUI

Hello everyone,
I'm working on automating a geometry workflow for a propeller design using SpaceClaim and the ansys.geometry.core Python API. I successfully run a .scscript file in the SpaceClaim GUI, and it builds the model exactly as intended.
However, when I try to run the same script using:
modeler.run_discovery_script_file(r"C:\path\to\my_script.scscript")
It fails with the following error:
GeometryRuntimeError: Script run failed.

2. What SpaceClaim version are you using?
3. Would it be possible to share the content of the scscript so that we can try to replicate it?

I'm currently using PyAnsys Geometry version 0.10.9 and SpaceClaim 2024 R1. I have a .scscript file created in SpaceClaim, and I’d like to know: Is it possible to convert or translate a .scscript file into native Python code that can be directly executed using the PyAnsys Geometry API? Any guidance on how to approach this or best practices for integrating existing SpaceClaim scripts into a Python-based workflow would be greatly appreciated.

Please note that the script includes the import of some confidential design geometry, so I'm unable to share the full .scscript content publicly. However, I can describe the structure or share specific non-sensitive portions if needed.

Hi @SingularitySeeker - thanks for the heads up on the information!

SpaceClaim 24R1 and PyAnsys Geometry 0.10.9 should be compatible, and executing .scscripts should be possible through the modeler.run_discovery_script_file(...) API.

Now, we have observed that certain modules inside the product's API might not be available (for example - #1565 (reply in thread))

Also, you can have a look at the product's logs if deployed using PyAnsys Geometry. You can also increase the logging level easily. For example:

from ansys.geometry.core import launch_modeler

modeler = launch_modeler(mode="spaceclaim", version=241, server_log_level=0)

modeler.run_discovery_script_file(...)

Check your following directory to see the logs generated by SpaceClaim when launched by PyAnsys Geometry (be default): C:\Users\Public\Documents\Ansys\GeometryService.

Maybe that can give you some extra hints of what's going on (?). In any case, if you could share with us a non-confidential, similar script to the one you are running we can try to replicate the problem.

Hi, I've got a similar issue.

I'm running on 24R2 with 0.11 of PyGeometry. I get the same method as above:
GeometryRuntimeError: Script run failed.

As mentioned before, the script works completely fine within the GUI.
I've tested it on 3 separate file types, .dscript .scscript .py

from ansys.geometry.core import launch_modeler_with_spaceclaim

modeler = launch_modeler_with_spaceclaim(version = "242", server_log_level=0)
modeler.run_discovery_script_file(file_path="file_path")

It seems to get through a a few lines of the script, then the error appear.

Any other ideas?
