Unable to assign claude to an issue

Hey team, I must be missing something obvious, but I can't assign claude to an issue on a private repo (where we already use it through comment mention). What am I missing ?

You need to add this to your workflow configuration:

- uses: anthropics/claude-code-action@beta
  with:
    anthropic_api_key: ${{ secrets.ANTHROPIC_API_KEY }}
    assignee_trigger: "claude"  # Add this line

And make sure your workflow triggers on assignments:

Hey thx for the answer. Actually I meant Claude doesn't show up in the UI so I can't assign it on the issue screen.

Oh, I see.
Unfortunatelly, GitHub app cannot be selected as an assignee via the GitHub UI or API.

So how am I supposed to assign it ? use a dedicated account ? I'm not sure the docs mentioned anything about this.

Yeah we should explain this better. If you're in a public repo, you should be able to assign to Claude without issue. If it's a private organization repo, you can only assign to users in your own org, which Claude is not. So you'd need to make a custom user in that case.

@ashwin-ant and @Djiit Just to understand this fully, and to make it more explicit if others end up here. Does the proposed solution entail creating a new GitHub Account, and setting the assignee_trigger to match that accounts username (effectively "borrowing" the accounts identity to allow Claude to be assigned via issues)? The FAQ and this thread is a little vague on the details, so I am not sure if this is a correct assumption or not.

This really is a bad solution. I can use @copilot to assign issues. Maybe talk to the folks at github to also make @claude a special user in that sense? Or maybe one could invite @claude as a collaborator?
