Question related to playing sound

Adrian, I opened a new thread here since my question has nothing to do with the "double file" issue.

I am currently in the process of "restoring" an old Philips radio and I'd like the user experience to be as close as possible to the original one : while one turns the stations dial, I'd like to play a scrambled searching radio sound like it used to be with LW or SW bands.

My first thought was to upload this sound to Moode's library and play it while moving the dial, but afaIk Moode api is http only so triggering MPD via mpc command would probably be a better idea.

Any hints on how I could achieve this ? I know a little of C programming but I am far from succeeding if I start fiddling with your code !

You are welcome, I am really pleased you can make use of the project!

I think the code is fairly sane, and that you would not have a problem modifying it. I am not sure what you would do for the logic. The raw value of the dial position may vary slightly each time it is read, and the dial logic helps keep it fixed on a band

You could try storing the raw value each time and compare it to the last raw value, and if it has changed by more than the maximum normal "wander", then you could say the dial is being turned, and play a sound.

Before writing any code, could could configure the dial with lots of marks, like a volume dial, but playing your sound through mpc, then you might get an idea of whether the idea works and what the sound will sound like. Another idea is just to have some bands between the dial bands where you play the sound. Another idea is that your dial command could just be a script that uses mpc play the sound before using mpc to play the new station, which would be very easy and might be enough for the effect.

Anyway, once you have the logic sorted I do not think it will be to difficult to implement it, and maybe with no coding.

Thanks for your hints Adrian. I'll give a try to the second solution (the before dial script) as it might be simpler than diving directly into the code... I'll let you know if this works.
