Update quarkus/drools/ kogito (v 1.43.0.Final) project to latest version

Dear kogito Community,

My team is trying to update existing application with 1800+ rules (drl) and decisiontables with following tech stack to latest version:

• Quarkus : 2.16.9.Final > 3.22.3
• Drools : 8.43.0.Final > 10.0.0
• Kogito : 1.43.0.Final > 10.0.0

Currently hot reloading of our application is not working due to drools rules being re-generated on every change and unable to reload application without complete re-compilation and its time-consuming and bad developer experience. Hot reloading of application during development is a must!

Been looking into the rules-legacy-quarkus-example which seems to have similar tech stack. and hope someone in community is able to confirm that updating is possible before proceeding - several attempts for updating build environment has been done!

Any tips/tricks/examples are welcome :-)

Hi @fah-kmd-dk,

• Please refer to 10.0.0 branch of the examples repository, considering you're updating to 10.0.0. The main branch could have relevant differences.
• Apache KIE 10.0.0 requires Quarkus 3.8.4- other versions are not compatible.

thanks for pointing me in right direction and will look into the 10.0.0 version of example 👍

Are you saying only Quarkus 3.8.4 is the only release compatible with kogito 10.0.0 version and latest Quarkus v 3.22.3 is not ?

I managed to update our application using the examples from 10.0.0 branch of the examples repository 💯

Now im trying to enable hot-reloading of our application during development but kogito code generation seems very slow and created this discussion in Quarkus but unsure if it is possible in latest version after reading this post.

Do you know @yesamer if hot reloading is supported in kogito version 10.0.0 branch? Btw our application also contains many decision-tables so they need to be supported too!

Hi @fah-kmd-dk , Hot-Reload feature is supported in 10.0.0 and still supported in main. I personally didn't notice the slowness you described. Is that slowness affecting your project only? is it present building our plain examples?

the kogito examples have great performance but most examples only contain few rules and decision-tables, in our project we have 1800+ rules/decision-tables and even with latest (quarkus/drools/kogito) versions takes more than 20-30 min of code generation which makes Quarkus dev (live reloading) useless as every change require code generation - here is a screenshot of quarkus dev execution.

My workaround idea is to move all rules/decision-tables to sub-module in application which hopefully would make quarkus dev useable but even better if kogito code generation could be improved, i wonder what the code generation is doing for 30 min without any status...
