Amazon Fire HD7 Gen 4 will not connect to PC

Was an Amazon Fire HD7 Gen 4 ever compatible with DeDRM & Calibre I bought this device used Reset and completely discharged.

Booted when charged and immediately upgraded to OS5. So, did this device ever connect to a PC? or did Amazon change the OS to prevent connection to a PC?

I know the Fire USB Data works because it will connect to a flash drive. I can find no way to connect as an MTP device.

It should connect. But books from a Fire cannot be decrypted. See this post for ways to get books you can decrypt: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361503
