Response time is comparably slow

Hi, I absolutely love this project. Really amazing job!
Although I am very happy but I have a few questions too. I tried this on my Fedora VM (bash) and I can see a visible difference in runtime of commands between athame and bash's native readline.
So is there any prospect/idea of making it faster? (at least so much that the visible difference narrows down)

Why you close this? I tried it out today, and clear out all my vimrc, it's still lag a lot.

IIRC, maybe that VM was also part of the problem, but I didn't check this natively atm.

Well, I am not the maintainer but the last commit was on March 1, 2021 so I think it is.

can confirm it's painfully slow for me
