Connection mode Infrastructure (ESS) or Ad-hoc (IBSS)

is there a way to change
Infrastructure (ESS) or Ad-hoc (IBSS) connection modes?

i found out that in the source files of HD there are optins to change the to Ad-hoc.

but how can i change that via library, i cant find any info in the reference
