<h3>Assignment 1: Counting in Python <small>due 2:30pm January 29</small></h3>
<p>
For this assignment, you should continue to use the
<a href="https://jupyter.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca:8000"
target="_blank">Waterloo CS Jupyter hub</a>. Use
your password for the <emph>CS student computing
environment</emph>.
</p>
<p>
This assignment requires you to implement a mechanism for
answering queries about some count-based statistics over
tokens in the text of Shakespeare's plays.
You will need to upload the following files to the Jupyter hub:
<ul>
<li><a href="content/cs431/Shakespeare.txt">Shakespeare.txt</a>: the
complete text of Shakespeare's plays</li>
<li><a href="content/cs431/simple_tokenize.py">simple_tokenize.py</a>:
a simple Python module for tokenizing text</li>
<li><a href="content/cs431/A1.ipynb">A1.ipynb</a>: this is the starter
notebook for A1, in which you will do your assignment work.
</ul>
The first two files should already have been uploaded to the hub
for <a href="assignment0-431.html" target="_blank">Assignment 0</a>.
You can just re-use the copies that you already
uploaded. To get started working on the assignment, open the starter
notebook on the hub.
</p>
<p>
When you have finished, submit A1 using the same procedure you
used for A0:
<ol>
<li>Download your <samp>A1.ipynb</samp> file from the Jupyter hub to your
computer.</li>
<li>Submit your <samp>A1.ipynb</samp> file to your GitHub repository using the web interface like you did in assignment 0.</li>
</ol>
</p>
<p>That's it! There's no need to send us anything—we already
know your username from assignment 0. Note that your A1.ipynb should be
committed and pushed to origin before the deadline.</p>
