Interim Finance Committee

In Dececember 2019, an Interim Finance Committee was formed.

The Running Notes of this committee are public and open for comment

The committee uses the public #finance-committee channel on Slack and the issue tracker in this project repo as the default for discussions.

Charge

  1. Determine the process of paying folks on the core dev team — i.e., anyone already in roles — and begin the process of doing so. (Bringing in new devs is in scope for the funding, but should await the new governance structure due to a lot more complexity in that topic.)
  2. Paying and overseeing folks in supporting roles (e.g. documentation copy-editors, contract lawyers in service of 1, etc).
  3. Oversee payment for services, licenses, and travel (e.g., Python in Astro, SciPy), and other miscellaneous expenses the Project already pays for.
  4. Develop a transparent process for reporting all of the above to the Coordination Committee and wider community, related record keeping, and planning the same for future possible financial committee efforts.

Policies

The committee conducts its business according to a set of agreed Policies. Suggestions of changes to these policies are welcome; see the condact details below.
