How to search for file names? How to search in a playlist?

I have a mp3 collection of classical music tracks where I have a separate directory for each composer and each file in those directories shows the piece in the title.
These mp3 files do not have ID3 tags!
I was hoping that audacious may be a player which does not rely on ID3 tags, but apparently I was wrong: It seems there is no way to just search for substrings in the file name or directory in the library and there is also no way to search within a playlist?

Searching in playlists is possible with "CTRL+F" when using the Qt interface. With GTK and also the Winamp interface "CTRL+J" should be the better option.

In your case it may also help to enable "Guess missing metadata from file path" found at "File -> Settings -> Advanced -> Metadata".

Thanks, it would never have occurred to me that Ctrl+J is something to try. I do not understand why such essential functionality is not mentioned in the right click menu. Ctrl+F does not work at all for me.
I just noticed I am able to restart in Qt mode and this works better for me.

Turns out I already had the "Guess missing metadata from file path" checkbox checked and it does help!
