Song Ratings Plugin?

Song ratings are a system tracked meta data inside of the the song file.

The field is named:
user.baloo.rating

I'm able to read and write to as follows.
getfattr -d -m user.baloo.rating "filename.xxx"
setfattr -n user.baloo.rating -v "8" "filename.xxx"

Would it be possible to implement this as a plugin?

The ratings go from 0 to 10.
