Creating a Model from a JsonSchema

I've been recieving the error

'Error: Resolution error: Supplied properties not correct for "CfnModelProps"\n schema: "{\\"$schema\\": \\"http://json-schema.org/draft-04/schema#\\", \\"title\\": \\"DummySchema\\", \\"type\\": \\"object\\", \\"properties\\": {\\"id\\": {\\"type\\": \\"string\\"}}}" should be an \'object\'.' from the following code

        cfn_date_range = api_gateway.CfnModel(self, "MyCfnDateRange",
            rest_api_id=root_api.rest_api_id,
            content_type="application/json",
            description="A date range for a distribution",
            name="dummpy",
            schema=json.dumps({
                "$schema": "http://json-schema.org/draft-04/schema#",
                "title": "DummySchema",
                "type": "object",
                "properties": {
                    "id": {
                        "type": "string"
                    }}}))

Any one know what is going on here? Do i need to convert all my json schemas from json to https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cdk/api/v1/docs/@aws-cdk_aws-apigateway.JsonSchema.html type, and is there an easy way to do that?
