Consider supporting SonicDE in Future

KDE is changing how much it will continue to support non-Wayland. Sonic is a new fork of KDE which will continue using Xorg and avoids Wayland.

SonicDE does not seem to be ported yet but its purpose is to preserve the X11 (non-Wayland) aspects of KDE.

So far there is kwin and plasma sonic variants.

Neither Gnome, KDE, nor even MATE are planning to support X11 anymore. This is definitely something that should be considered.

I agree with this article. Mate is based on GTK3, while GTK5 is dropping support for X11. Do you think they will stick with the old version to satisfy the needs of a few, or will they join the majority of desktop developers, such as Gnome and KDE, and abandon X11 for Wayland?
Logically speaking, they will continue to evolve, so naturally, they will move on.

They were glad that this discussion was already taking place. To summarize the discussion itself: There are already some projects seeking to provide alternatives to GTK5.

Cool! I'm currently using iMate on my FreeBSD 15, and if they decide to switch to Wayland, SonicDE would be the perfect replacement.
