Is PopOS a good alternative?

Hi all,

I am new to linux. I have had Ubuntu for a bit and wanted to try Omarchy because of the youtubers raving about it.

I love the idea behind it but I am finding it super buggy on my system. Sometimes vscode, figma, whatsapp apps crash. Sometimes steam launches games and then i cant exit them. I have had freezing. gaming performance degradation and other issues.

I have the latest omarchy updates, latest nvidia drivers and not sure what else to do.

I am wondering if there is a distro out there that is better suited for me - i do some gaming and I code.

Maybe I dual boot with Windows Tiny or Bazzite for gaming and Omarchy for work.

So you know, Omarchy is a popular theme of Hyprland desktop environment built on Arch Linux, you can change the desktop environment from Hyprland to anything else, or change the theme settings.

Pop!_OS is a completely different system on top of the Linux kernel, so there will be a lot under the hood that works differently, but it does have an interesting tiling solution.

Bazzite for gaming is as good as it gets for compatibility (Windows not included), but in my opinion if you're using Bazzite for gaming you may as well use it as your main desktop as well, maybe install Hyprland DE as a second DE instead of a whole other boot OS.

Thanks. I tried Pop, wasnt for me.

I ended up going back to windows due to issues on Omarchy on my system and lack of nvidia driver support, software support etc.

I now run Windows 10 Tiny as my primary OS because the nvidia drivers are good there so i can game and use the software i need. I then run Ubuntu in a VM for my coding and work because linux has a better file system and my code uses a lot of files. I tried Pop and Omarchy in a VM and they did not like that, even with open-vm-tools. Which is a pity cause i really wanted to use Omarchy in some way.

I didnt want to use dual boot because then i would have to shut down and lose all my open apps every time i wanted to switch OS's. So windows with ubuntu vm has worked out well for me.

Also for anyone who stumbles across and is curious about windows tiny:

This took my shitty windows experience of 90FPS in games like CS2 to 220FPS. Huge difference in perf because of the removal of all the background junk.

And now that I keep my windows clean and install all my work stuff - vscode, codebases, slack, discord, email client etc in ubuntu, when i shut down my vm then its all no longer running - so no background apps ruining my perf, windows stays clean.
