riak not merging the data #79

hi,
I've got an issue of a lack of the free space on disk, bitcask have a lot of data-hint pair files, i"ve read that they should be merged by the trigger, according to the configuration in riak.config
bitcask.merge.policy = window
bitcask.merge.window.start = 1
bitcask.merge.window.end = 6
but their amount is not reducing (there are even files since 2016 year), maybe I don't get the idea of a merging process, or there is smth else that I should config?!
I will highly appreciate if smb can help me with understanding the problem
