Get the site up and running on the server

Keeping track of where I'm at for reference. I've got the productivity app running on the same site as my personal page/blog, which is a flask app.

Static files are currently an issue because if I override /static/ in the nginx sites-available file then it gets overridden for the flask app as well.

The Gunicorn .conf file is having trouble creating a socket automatically. I think this may be a permissions issue but still trying to figure it out. It's leading to a 502 error on the django app landing page. This is my focus right now.

It wasn't a permissions issue. I was able to figure it out from the upstart log file. I was following a basic tutorial at digital ocean for getting it configured, but I already have git set up for automatic deployment, and the app pushed to the production server. Because of the way that I organized my original repo, everything had to be pointed one directory deeper, and then I had to change proxy_pass for the location in the nginx site file to point to the correct socket location.

It's getting the django app now but using bendauer.com/productivity is confusing my urls.py.

What's left:

• get the urls pointed correctly

• figure out how to manage static files for the two separate web apps (flask and django) on the same domain.

• set up rabbitmq and get the celery tasks running as a daemon.

• And figure out how daemons work in general before breaking anything.

ok so that wasn't too bad. I added a pre variable that stores the initial part of the address and concatenated that with the specific url in my urls.py. There's got to be a better way, but for now I want to get this thing running.

Managed to get rabbitmq, celery and celerybeat running. Going down the security checklist. Registered an SSL certificate for the domain. Need to get that set up on the server and then reconfigure nginx.

Once this is all done I'm going to need to pull the changes I made into a separate branch. I think I may want to have a separate branch locally for my live server so that I can resolve any merge issues without overwriting the necessary differences. There might be a better way though, so I'll have to do a little digging first.
