FIDO support

With @moxie0 developing Confer - the equivalent of Signal but for AI assistants - I wanted to use my Aegis app to store the encryption key.

Turns out, Confer is using FIDO, I guess for good reasons.

I'd like to bring back the discussion of adding support for FIDO in Aegis, which was briefly discussed in #1021.

It was decided that FIDO was out of scope for Aegis, but I personally disagree.

Do you think that in 2026 this decision could be reconsidered?

Would like 2 support this feature and request. My company is using office365 like many others, for now they support de MS authenticator and in addition other authenticator like Aegis. But... TOTP will be discontinued in the near future and Fido will be the standard, prob many company's will follow. (I refuse to use MS auth app on my private phone btw) Like to use my Aegis app to store the encryption key in the near future.

Looks like there is currently no open source Android solution to FIDO2.
I'm not entirely sure, if other non-big tech vendors don't support the standard correctly due to missing error diagnostic and Microsoft neither stating what they use or if Microsoft does not comply with standard for me.

I can't enable 2FA for GitLab Enterprise 18.6. I get the unsupported FIDO protocol error.
