Beets is trying to find the right album for your tracks. It needs existing metadata to determine that. If existing tags are non-existing or just plain out wrong, it makes it difficult to find matches. There are ways to help beets:

Hi @steve02081504 and @DjSlash, this is a known issue: #4640 and yes, all the things @DjSlash mentioned will help! The fromfilename plugin works best if the files have no tags at all. Files with completely wrong tags or just artist or just album tags often are the most problematic. In that case quickly pre-tagging with another tool prior to beet imports is the last resort solution but it will definitely help. In that "one folder holds everything" source we see above using |
