How to install a plugin by itself when beets was install via pipx?

I want to install the embedart plugin into an existing beets install. The docu advises to do

pip install 'beets[embedart]

however I have installed beets with pipx, so I tried

pipx inject beets 'beets[embedart]'

and this fails with "beets already seems to be injected in 'beets'".

How can I just install the embedart plugin into the beets virtual environment without going via the already installed beets?

Running this gives me: "ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement embedart".

I guess embedart is not on pypi?

I just checked, embed is indeed not on pypi.

How does beets install these things internally?

I was able to install the plugin into pipx' virtual environment via the following trick:

pipx runpip beets install 'beets[embedart]'
