my beets is storing musicbrainz album type in a very weird way

why would it put the types in there as a;l;b;u;m and not simply "album" etc?

i'm having trouble to reliably get beets to recognize soundtracks as soundtracks and sort them accordingly and i think this might be the reason?

This was bug #4528 and is fixed in the 2.0.0 release. You should upgrade your beets install.
