I have applied a fix by
manthrax(#52) that allows the re-use of graph instances. I have not formally-tested the performance gain but I estimate it to be a-hundred-fold in a project with a very-large graph.(400-by-400-grid).Since there are 10-year-old pending pull-requests here, I don't expect this to be merged but if anyone wants to use the patched repository, it's located here: https://github.com/tukkek/a-star/
