DAVx5 address book not showing in list of contact lists

I have been using DAVx5 for years to sync my contacts from my Nextcloud server to my Android phone (Moto g31(w) Android 12).
And tbh I have forgotten about it, since it just works.

However I just added a contact from WhatsApp and was only offered my Google accounts and 'save to device' as a storage location.
I thought that was odd, but assumed WhatsApp were being WhatsApp, so saved to device, and then went to the Android contacts app to move the contact.
However, again this only gave me the option to move to the Google accounts or save to device.

If I add a new contact I am offered the option of adding this to my DAVx5 address book, and my existing contacts show they are in my DAVx5 address book, but I can't move a contact there or create a contact there from WhatsApp.

I assume Google has changed something, and this could have happened ages ago (as I said - afaik DAVx5 has just been working in the background for years) but does anyone know how to fix this?

There was a suggestion in the FAQ "[Android 12] How to make Google Contacts show your DAVx5 address books" which is not quite my my issue but I tried the suggestion anyway and it did not solve the problem.

Hi, this is a well known issue with WhatsApp, and we really cannot do anything about it. They don't want you to store contacts on other places. My only suggestion is to copy-paste the data into your contacts app. I know it's inconvenient, but business decisions I guess.

No problem, I assumed it wasn't DAVx5's fault.
I was just expecting that once in the contacts app I would be able to move the contact rather than needing to recreate it.

I'm not sure about that one, I think most contacts apps don't even show WhatsApp as an address book. It's quite an inconvenient thing.

I noticed this recently too, and it seems that the only solution is to first save the contact to your phone in the WhatsApp dialog for new contacts and then move the contact to the DAVx address book using an alternative contacts app such as the one from fossify.

I workaround this by clicking "add information" in Whatsapp when I want to add a contact from there and then open it with my Samsung Contacts app where I can choose the DAVx5 address book (or which is pre-selected as standard). Doesn't that work for you?
