Add ability to use several Task Apps at once

I use both jtx-Board and Task.org app simultaneously, bc I am heavily invested in the workflow that jtx enables, but I also want the geobased reminders plus I prefer the UI of Tasks for switching between the lists and so on.

Currently, I have to manually switch the Task provider app in the settings, push sync and switch back. I would rather that it syncs with both providers simultaneously. Sry, no idea if that is a big hassle in the backend, but it would be great to have this.

Hi, we understand this would be great, but right now, DAVx⁵ is not really designed for this. We have this on the roadmap for intended features, but it will take a while. We are really working into refactoring all the code to make it more maintainable, and be able to add new features more easily.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but right now it's just not an easy thing to do.

I could be wrong but afaik jtx Board also offers geobased reminders.

Actually you are. I wish you were right. Another feature that is missing is to schedule tasks as events.

Glad to hear it's on the roadmap and I fully understand. Please keep up the work and focus on things first that you sometimes need to completely redo the setup of accounts bc they stop working.

I'd also be very interested in this feature. I expected tasks to integrate with any compatible task app, the same way as calendars. My use case is, I like to use tasks.org for tasks and jtx for journals and notes.

I would have thought that enabling both at the same time wouldn't be that big of change(since the functionality itself is there), but I'm happy it is on the roadmap.

The issue is that Android doesn't support Tasks just like calendar. There's a shared database in Android for contacts and calendars (the "do you allow x to access your calendar" message). For Tasks, there's just no such thing in Android, and that's why the task provider apps exist. They do not only provide an interface, but also a custom provider that acts like the system provider but for tasks. That's basically why you can't use multiple apps at once, each of them use their own database.

If they got together, and shared a single source of data, it would work out, but right now we would have to copy the data to all of their databases. The way everything is implemented right now doesn't allow us to do it (it's not as simple as it looks like). So until we refactor the code to allow it, we simply cannot support this feature, even though we understand how useful it would be, and we want to do it.

Ok, that actually makes sense, thank you for the response. This whole field is one of the only things I like better in the Apple world. Calendar and Tasks are easy to integrate with CalDav and synchronization works out of the box on iPhones.

Yes, that's true, but I also have to say that I don't love how it works on iPhone. It gives you nearly zero control over when to synchronize, or how; and it doesn't support Push, for example 👀
