Query by file type

I want to query for all files with the *.png extension, but am just not finding the term. I'm just trying to pull a list of images in my Obsidian notes into a standalone reference table.

I'm not a coder, so please have a little pitty and patience with me trying to figure this out :)

Dataview only indexes markdown pages right now; adding other file queries has been on my TODO list for a little while.

I'd like to be able to query by file type, like a separate table for .md files (use case: sort by descending, so that I know what's the last file I worked on) and like @Guvna-McBacon said, a table with all attachments (such as .png files). Right now, it looks like all the files are indexed.

Is there a way I can change the query to get only certain file types? Or be able to sort it by file type?

This is what I currently use:

TABLE file.folder, file.mtime 

SORT file.mtime DESC

Upcoming in a later release - there is a little bit of query language work required to make it work properly without breaking existing queries.
