I note in the docs for 0.17 there's reference to potentially supporting external faster-whisper instances for shared usage on audio transcription; I'd like to say this would be really useful, I'm already running a faster-whisper instance on the same machine as Frigate

Yes, as noted in the docs, this is a consideration for a future version.
