Movement tuning #22174

Based on your motion tuning values (threshold: 50, contour_area: 30), here are several approaches to reduce those large motion boxes: Increase threshold further: Your threshold of 50 is already relatively high, but you can increase it more to make motion detection less sensitive to pixel changes(1). The value can be set between 1 and 255(2). Try incrementally raising it to 60-70 to see if it reduces the false motion boxes. Increase contour_area: Your contour_area of 30 is at medium sensitivity(1)(2). Consider increasing it to 50 (low sensitivity) or higher to prevent smaller areas of motion from being detected(1). According to the documentation, as a rule of thumb: 10 is high sensitivity, 30 is medium sensitivity, and 50 is low sensitivity(1)(2). Apply motion masks: The bursts of boxes appearing and disappearing suggest environmental factors like lighting changes, shadows, or moving vegetation(3). Use the Motion Tuner (Settings > Motion Tuner) to identify these areas, then create motion masks to prevent motion detection in those specific regions(1)(3). Motion masks should cover areas with regular motion not caused by objects you want to detect, such as timestamps, tree limbs, or bushes that move due to wind(3). Adjust lightning_threshold: If you're experiencing sudden lighting changes (like IR mode switching or actual lightning), you might need to tune the Disable improve_contrast temporarily: If the issue occurs primarily during certain lighting conditions, try disabling The most effective approach is typically using the Motion Tuner in the Frigate UI to adjust values live and immediately see the effect on motion detection(1). 📚 Sources: Have another question? Recently with 0.17 version ive noticed that even when using pretty high tuning values for luminance and area (50/30), i get quite a lot of big red boxes on half of the picture, sometimes they appear in burst if 5/10 boxes and they go away and i was wondering what i could do. Sometimes the entire picture is boxed in red for 5/10s
