Why are multiple copies running?

I installed Vorta yesterday, but nothing is configured yet (I'm waiting for the backup target NAS drives to arrive). After I rebooted yesterday, I noticed two Vorta icons in the system tray (Deb13 / KDE Plasma 6). I'm pretty sure I killed one of them.

This morning when I unlocked the machine, there are now three Vorta icons, and three processes...

Edit: I've had reasons to reboot a couple times today and the number of Vorta instances that are running seems to be random -- sometimes it's just one, other times two or three. Rather puzzling.

If someone can tell me how startup is configured, I'll check that, maybe it warrants opening an Issue.

One app can have multiple threads or processes. You could use pstree to see if they belong to the same app.

I think what's actually happening is that KDE is restoring the old one(s) at startup, as well as auto-starting a new one...

@MV10 In this case, this would be an issue with KDE "autostart at login".
Do you use something like "restore session"?

If your assumption is right, you could try to avoid this by using the following command to autostart Vorta in Settings/ Autostart:
/bin/bash -c 'if ! pidof -x "vorta" >/dev/null; then vorta --daemonize; fi'
instead of :
vorta --daemonize

This command only starts Vorta if there is no running Vorta process.
Of course, this will not work if Vorta is started by other ways (e.g. session restore), after the execution of "autostart at login".

Yes, KDE Session Restore is enabled. Turns out I can add Vorta to an ignore list. It seems to work.

This makes me wonder what KDE/ Plasma is doing with the other applications that are autostarted at login.

I couldn't say. I only have Spotify configured for autostart and it only allows a single instance (though I wonder if that works if I were to switch back to Wayland).
