The mockup shown in the new blogpost has confusing UX, hopefully the final result will be much clearer. Looking closely at the screenshot, I think the problem is that the sidebar is not visually separated from the rest, making the visual division non-existent and therefore the logical division not make sense. libadwaita's sidebar is visually distinct, making it clearly separated from the rest, and avoiding this confusion.
