Question: Does bottles work under wayland?

I'm on arch linux running swaywm. I've installed bottles through flatpak but I cannot get it to work. It creates a bottle properly, but then refuses to launch anything, complaining about X server not running or DISPLAY not being set correctly:

The thing is that Xwayland is running on my system and DISPLAY is set, at least in my normal session (I've also confirmed with xclock that it works). Is this a known issue? I'm assuming it's due to flatpak sandboxing. Is there anything I could do to fix it?

Short answer is yes, Flatpac Bottles works under wayland's. I have been successfully Using Bottles on Arch, with Hyprland, KDE, and now Cosmic.

Looking at the error (This is where its gets a bit out of my depth), but it looks like wine cannot find or connect to a display server (X11 or Wayland), and since you are running swaywm you need to ensure Xwaylands is installed and configured. As you stated, you have configured xwayland and can see this working, so your probably on the money with Flatpac as the issue.

There is an AUR package available for bottles, or you can grant permissions:

flatpak override --user --socket=x11 --socket=wayland com.usebottles.bottles

alternatively you could check flatpac permissions with flatseal and enable X11 and Wayland sockets.

I'm on Pop!_OS 24.04 in the COSMIC environment and running into a very similar issue. I double-checked that I have all the sockets enabled via flatseal. EDIT: Oops I forgot to update to most recent runner, dxvk, and vkd3d. Not sure last one of those matters, but here's the updated version of the error log:

Oh neat it's identical! The weird thing is that my error does look distinctly different when I use an X11-based desktop environment, so it's seeing something. I hate working with flatpaks.
