Face starring right, how does that work?

There is the setting:
Face starring right
Which is supposed to give the right to star faces. As far as I understood, would that change the default face, displayed in faces tab.
Unfortunately I can't find a way to star faces in. I can see the faces rectangle with name, when looking at the pictures, but that's all.
