Free plan, can not use recordFeatureUsage function?

I have a free which i created as below:

      $freePlan = Plan::create([
          'name' => 'Free',
          'description' => 'This is a free plan',
          'price' => 0.00,
          'signup_fee' => 0.00,
          'invoice_period' => 1,
          'invoice_interval' => 'month',
          'tier' => 1,
          'currency' => 'USD',
          'tag' => 'free',
      ]);
      $freePlan->features()->saveMany([
          new PlanFeature(['tag' => 'feature_1', 'name' => 'Feature 1', 'value' => 10, 'sort_order' => 1]),
          new PlanFeature(['tag' => 'feature_2', 'name' => 'Feature 2', 'value' => 1000, 'sort_order' => 2]),
          new PlanFeature(['tag' => 'feature_3', 'name' => 'Feature 3', 'value' => 100, 'sort_order' => 3]),
          new PlanFeature(['tag' => 'feature_4', 'name' => 'Feature 4', 'value' => 50, 'sort_order' => 4]),
      ]);

First i want to add to record feature usage like so:

$user = auth()->user();

      $canUseFeature_pods = $user->subscription('main')->canUseFeature('number_of_pods');

      if($canUseFeature_pods)
      {
        $user->subscription('main')->recordFeatureUsage('number_of_pods');
      }

  For other plans, this is working fine, but for free plan it is not allowing recordFeatureUsage.
  
  
  Any guidelines on how to implement this?
