Ebie and I have been working on preparing the DETECT Follow-up interview data for analysis. I created some custom functions for recoding character vectors to numeric vectors, then creating a factor version of them, then relocating the factor version immediately after the numeric version. You may want to consider using these as an example or quiz question in Intro to R.
