API usage possible in Open Open Source version?

I have a simple questions that we haven't figured out yet and I hope to get a clear answer:

Does the free open source version offer the usage of API? (Adding user, retrieve schedule, ...)?
Or is it required to have a commercial license?

as of today, the Rest API is closed source but you could try and use the TRPC API
