https://community.vancouvertech.com isn't very active now and its maintainer is considering shutting it down.

Kickstarter has been fronting the costs of running this instance. They're paying for a managed Discourse setup, about $120 per month.

Possibly the forum format isn't attractive to people who are used to Slack. Or maybe it didn't have sufficient network effect to take off.

When it first launched, I'd hoped Discourse would have been a safe place for thoughtful conversations. Whatever the reason, I'll be sad to see it go 💯💖

+1. I believe that Gastown Gang has the connections and bandwidth to make it succeed. The forum is likely to shutdown within 30 days if you don't take it over. Running it on DigitalOcean or so should be cheapish.

Alright, Discourse might shutdown https://community.vancouvertech.com anytime soon. So I'm going to announce that we're shutting it down the forum before it goes away. 😔

Seeing as we didn't have the bandwidth to action this before the Discourse was shut down, I'd suggest leaving the issue open for future people who are interested in maintaining a Discourse community.
