documentation of/API for random effects

Working on the FAQ ... the only place I can see random effects (in the sense of smoothing/Laplace) mentioned is in the advanced time-varying parameter vignette, where the method for specifying that parameter vectors are random effects is simulator$replace$random_frame(rparams).

Am I missing something? Is there a higher-level API for this somewhere?

You are not missing anything in the docs. Random effects needs more love generally. I'll put this on the list. Thanks.
