Console closed errors after reboot or poweroff on 6/edge

Description

Made a mistake with my autoinstall.yaml so had to reboot. After the reboot it immediately showed the console error. It briefly shows the new console but then immediately hangs. GRUB didn't even get a chance to fully load haha.

I updated to 6/edge an hour ago because I was constantly needing to refresh because of the console errors. (Related to #1658 ?). I hoped this would be fixed on 6/edge but the first reboot of my VM resulted in another hanging console.

Next, my VM powered off after the installation was done. This also results in the console error.

If a VM state changes to powered off, the console closing is not really unexpected :)

Sometimes when I am on the graphical console page and I click Start instance, the console shows and immediately hangs with the unexpected close error message.

I can't reproduce the problems with 6/stable nor with 6/edge. Tested with the raspbian and an ubuntu iso image.

Do you have a proxy in front of lxd-ui or another hint on how to reproduce the issue?

I'm running kubuntu 25.10 with local LXD 6/edge. No proxy in front. Connecting to https://127.0.0.1:8443.

Sometimes it can start 10x without issues, and sometimes it disconnects immediately. The recording was unlucky that it happened twice in a row. It's like a race condition somewhere 🤔.

I've had the issue almost every single time when I had another tab open with the console view of this specific VM. I made sure to check that wasn't the case. The issue still pops up "occasionally".

This can be the problem. You can only have one console open per VM. So if there are multiple tabs open to the same instance console, they take turns in who has the connection and disconnect each other. I don't see a way to resolve this though.

Yeah we ran into that issue before. That is why I made sure that wasn't the case this time. It still happens "sometimes". I triple checked that I did not have another console view open.

I have a 2x 1 minute recording of me switching between the console tab and a different tab, with the console connection failing sometimes. I'm including the dev console where you can see a variety of errors.

Some of the issues you mention are due to spurious errors in timing on resize or initialization. I opened a PR to fix those.

One remaining issue is when the console does not connect is due to a spice message SPICE_LINK_ERR_PERMISSION_DENIED, see also spice protocol. That is the source of the Permission denied. console error. As this message comes from the spice server, so I doubt we can fix it in the UI client.
